Alright so, as I said, Orgone of Pittsburgh is what could be described as a tech-death band, but very different than bands like Brain Drill, Beneath the Massacre, or whatever is on your mind when you hear the term "tech-death" (old or new). This is very technical death metal indeed, but it also features a shitload of other musical influences. Very complex and unique stuff!
Here, I'll quote my own review:
"The structure of the whole album is progressive and there is not much repetition going on. Most of the songs are based on a gradual build-up, or should I say 'build-down', since they usually start with tech metal whirlwinds that slow down into crushing ambiental sludgy and more melodic parts. So rather than being 'all about the riffs', it's about the songs as a whole."
Other than the exceptional composition, something to note are the lyrics.
The lyrics are no less refreshing and unique than the music, and I threw them in (.txt) together with the audio files for both this album and the demo, so at least check them out!
The guys from Orgone have an actual stance on politics and society which they're open about too (though I find some of the individuals they support questionable, but not necessarily in a negative way), something I've found the majority of metal to be lacking.
More about Orgone on their myspace. You can also buy their stuff there.
