Vipe & Cat Massacre made me remember hardcore punk, made me feel how much I miss hardcore punk in recent life. 'Control Force' is their out of control split CDr where both bands get to thrashing the fuck away with the same willpower that makes Adrenaline O.D. immortal; two bands holding hands, singing "Ramma lamma, fa fa fa-" or, rather, "Rock 'n' roll gas station..."

The sound of blisters bursting from corpse-painted foreheads into a sunset out of Mad Max is what Cat Massacre strives toward (Candle Lit Shit is a blackened punk hit above anything that Teen Cthulhu ever did), whereas Vipe breaks out of the hardcore closet now and then by some sort of blazing post-punk extravaganza (pay attention to 'Wuss'?!), but let's just hope that they remain an awesome punk band, never to become a pretty good U2 cover band.

Syntax (USA) - DEMO (2009)

Syntax, as a band of Discordance Axis worshipers and general noise & speed enthusiasts, is another band that ought to have been posted on cephscope much, much earlier. Had someone played me, for example, 'Elegy' without letting me know about what I'm listening to, I'd probably ask something along the lines of... "Has Chang unearthed some lost recordings or is DxAx back together?" Sounds like Asterisk performing in a space between Ulterior and Jouhou, all the way down to a perceivable "lack" of distortion on the guitar, and a thin, trashcan presence of the snare.

A part of me enjoys the shit out of the demo, and I heartily recommend it to any grind & Disco Axis fan, yet in the end I'd really, really like to hear something more from the band. It is also somewhat understandable if this is exactly what they want out of their sound, but I'd still ask of them to review the ranks of wondrous, wide-eyed DxAx worshippers that they've joined by the power of these recordings, e.g. Asterisk, White Eyes, Agents of Abhorrence, Jesus Egg...


That's what they're doing, there, investing their efforts by the power of a castle, while it is the castle that really contains the power. Build your own castle! And, "He-Man"?! How fucked up and suggestive is that, especially in certain other languages, where you'd pronounce He-Man and hymen the exactly same way... ATOMÇK, PAUCITIES (Newport/Bristol & Chicago) - SPLIT 7'' (2010)

I'm running much too late on this, and many other releases to take note of that were sent my way, but by now I'd hope that "better late than never" is cool in regard to grindcore. For some release-info:

"ATOMÇK are based in Newport/Bristol- they began life as a ANb style diversion before aquiring the tub skills of Czech drummer Marzena (HIBAKUSHA, varous other Czech groups). This took the sound in more of a D'AXIS direction yadda yadda.
Chicago's PAUCITIES bring violent, raw mincecore that worships Agathocles and Unseen Terror. Featuring members of WINTERS IN OSAKA and SOCIALL RETARDED, this lot got together in 2009 to bring the grind."

ATOMÇK often break the Code of Speed either for a more technical, "controlled chaos" approach, or for a display of metallic dissonance, with the sound of double-bass bullets bitten by an all-fucked-up, very delinearised 4th dimension, whereas PAUCITIES, as mentioned, enjoy sucking on the disgusting ol' cysts of Agathocles and Repulsion.
