Gore isn't particularly my cup of teeth but this is Regurgitate so, come on, mang, the cover artwork is nice.

  3. The best thing is the way the penis on there looks petulantly vexed at being disturbed.

  6. The Fifties Blowjob Look? Didn't they release a split 7" with Transistor Transistor?

  7. Most covers don't bother me, except for the first two carcass albums...Those gross me out, just how they put it together I guess

  8. Laule, I had to get rid of "Symphonies of Sickness" because of the cover, I just couldn't stand it but that was in the nineties [nothing has changed much ;)].

  9. The original cover of God Dethroned's 'The Christhunt' offends me, because it's just completely gratuitous.

  10. I feel kind of strange, now, that the Carcass meat collage covers and that God Dethroned cover don't bother me. I'd be grossed out to find that dissected rat in my basement, sure, but I guess in two dimensions I can kind of ignore it. The only covers that really bother me are black-and-white images of war and famine, for some reason.

  12. (Cocks. Let's try that again, shall we?)

It's not that it grosses me out -it's just innards. I've seen worse in reality. I've *eaten* worse. It's that the image is entirely devoid of context; with Carcass, they were making the 'anatomically correct grind' point with images taken from medical texts, the lyrics were relevant to the cover. With The Christhunt, it's simply 'look at this awesome picture of a gutted rat, which we have killed specifically for the purpose of showing how metal we are!'.

I've got no problem with images of war being used(there's actually a copy of Cripple Bastards 'Images of War, Images of Pain' split with Senseless Apocalypse on my desk, ready for posting here) as long as, again, there is context. Crass could get away with it, because they were trying to make you fucking *look* at what was going on - people were dying in the Falklands, for no good reason, and Thatcher was cowing the media into sanitising everything you read and saw about it.

I just hate gratuitousness. You can be brutal in your lyrical imagery, but convey a more optimistic message in your artwork, just look at TID.

    tl;dr - I think goregrind is silly.

  13. Yeah, intent and context are definitely a large part of what makes the difference in disturbing things.

Another reason those meat-collage covers don't bother me is the fact that Carcass were vegetarians, as far as I know, and so they were trying to make a point that meat is meat is meat, no matter how you try to dress it up.

I guess the Christhunt cover should disturb me more, since I'm not sure what a skinned rat has to do with hunting Christ, but the fact that it was so cleanly dissected rather than just mashed-up and mutilated hints that there might be more to say there (or that they're just good at dissecting rats.)I agree it's gratuitous, I'm just wondering why it doesn't offend me more.

I guess why I'm disturbed by pictures of war and famine is that I feel like I'm often not given enough context, in that you're often not told where, how, who, or why besides that SOMEONE is suffering somewhere. And everybody already knows that.

Also, that CB/Senseless Apocalypse split sounds exciting, never heard it.

  14. You know, the Cripple Bastards / Senseless Apocalypse split is actually already on Cephalochromoscope, but it's not my (or any other staffmember's) rip, lacks songtitles for the SxAx side, lacks cover scans, includes a rant against Giulio (naturally), and... stuff. See here: http://cephalochromoscope.blogspot.com/search?q=senseless+apocalypse

That said, I'm all for Davydd doing a better repost if he wants to (for reasons already explained).

  15. Whooops, didn't see that. The rip seems better than I could manage with my current resources. I'll scan everything so you can update it, or something.

Just as well I've got a few other shinies planned :P

  16. Hey, sure. :P I figure what I could do then is scan the DxAx EPs (sans the split w/ Capitalist Casualties) and update all those posts, too (it must all lead up to a great CEPHALOCHROMOSCOPE GREATEST HITS post).
